The pivot

VanEck is officially pulling the plug on its proposed Lido staked Ether (stETH) ETF. The asset management firm, which originally filed the S-1 registration for the fund back in October 2025, confirmed in an SEC filing on Wednesday that it no longer plans to move forward with the product.

What was the plan?

The ETF was designed to be a vehicle for investors to gain exposure to stETH, a liquid staking token. If the fund had gone live, it would have held the tokens directly and aimed to stack the staking rewards that come with owning the asset. As of now, the firm hasn't dropped any details on why they’re shelving the project or if they’ve got another plan in the works to replace it.

Why it matters

For the degen community, the prospect of a staked Ether ETF was a major topic, as it would have bridged the gap between traditional finance and on-chain yield. Seeing a major player like VanEck walk away from the filing suggests the regulatory or market environment for these specific yield-bearing products might be trickier than initially hoped. Remember: this isn't financial advice—the crypto space moves fast, and sometimes the bags you were waiting for never make it to the exchange.
