The liquidations are real
If you were watching the charts this morning, you probably noticed the sea of red. Nearly $1 billion in crypto futures positions got liquidated in the last 24 hours as prices took a dive. When traders use leverage—basically betting with borrowed money—and the market moves against them, exchanges automatically close those positions to protect themselves. It’s a total L for anyone over-leveraged, and it only adds more downward pressure to the price action.
Who got hit the hardest?
While Bitcoin is sitting around $81,000—down about 3%—it was actually Ether traders who felt the most pain. CoinGlass data shows that ETH liquidations hit a massive $286 million, compared to $197 million for Bitcoin. That’s wild considering the Ether futures market is much smaller than Bitcoin's.
Other alts took hits too. Solana (SOL) and XRP both dropped around 5%, and Dogecoin fell by about 6%. Zcash (ZEC) had an even rougher time, sliding 13% and racking up $19 million in liquidations.
Why it matters
The market is lowkey stressed about what the Federal Reserve is going to do with interest rates next. When that kind of uncertainty hits, the degen energy fades and people start pulling their bags out. Real talk: this is exactly why people say not to over-leverage yourself. Nothing here is financial advice, but when the market gets this volatile, staying on-chain without a seatbelt is a quick way to getrekt. Keep your head on a swivel—the macro vibes are off right now.
