The folks over at SNL U.K. are officially keeping it real. During Saturday night’s "Weekend Update," co-host Ania Magliano decided to address the elephant in the room: Shane Gillis’ recent, highkey messy hosting gig on the American version of Saturday Night Live.

In case you missed the drama, Gillis’ monologue was a total L. He went on a bizarre rant about women’s gym wear, claiming, “I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?” He even went on to describe shorts in a way that was, frankly, gross.

Magliano didn’t let the misogyny slide. After mentioning a story about a ride operator at Oktoberfest giving out free cycling shorts to protect women from being upskirted, she quipped, “Wearing the gym shorts will protect women from being upskirted, but it does make them vulnerable to something much worse.” Naturally, a photo of Gillis flashed on screen, and the audience lost it.

But the roast didn't end there. She also took a jab at his accidental f-bomb, which caused a stir stateside because NBC guidelines aren't exactly a fan of that language. Dropping the f-bomb herself, Magliano hit back: “Oh, Shane. You’re not allowed to say that, you stupid fucking cunt.”

Why it matters

It’s giving major tension between the two versions of the show. By openly mocking the American production’s restrictive standards and Gillis’ controversial comments, SNL U.K. is proving they aren't afraid to stir the pot when it comes to U.S. comedy culture.
