Nordic Noir gets an upgrade

If you live for a good mystery, clear your calendar. Reinvent Yellow Sales just dropped their new lineup for Mipcom, and it is giving major prestige TV energy. The headline acts? Two fresh crime thrillers: SkyShowtime’s The Homicide Unit and the Icelandic drama Fjord.

The Homicide Unit (or Riksmord if you’re being fancy) drops in March 2027. It follows an elite traveling team of investigators and stars Pernilla August as the chief, 'Ib.' The show is inspired by real-life specialized police units, so expect some serious high-stakes drama. Meanwhile, Fjord is hitting our screens later this year. Co-created by Anita Briem, who also stars in the lead role of Ranna, this six-parter follows a woman who moves back to Iceland and gets lowkey obsessed with a ten-year-old disappearance, eventually turning to podcasting to uncover local secrets. It’s definitely giving ‘small town with major skeletons in the closet’ vibes.

The full Mipcom spread

Reinvent Yellow isn't stopping there. Their slate is packed with other must-watch titles, including Nora Sand: Devil’s Plan, three new Finnish series, and high-end projects like Snake Killer starring Pilou Asbæk and Sogn Murders featuring Kristofer Hivju. They’re even dropping the eighth season of the hit hospital drama The New Nurses.

Helene Aurø, the company’s chief sales officer, mentioned that while crime and thriller genres are still the main characters of the industry, buyers are getting way more selective. They’re looking for those unique, distinctive voices to cut through the noise—and honestly, this slate seems to be aiming for exactly that.

Why it matters

This collection shows how the industry is evolving to keep Nordic storytelling relevant on a global scale. By mixing local roots with an expanding interest in English-language content, Reinvent Yellow is trying to keep us hooked with fresh takes on the classic crime genre.
