It was just a regular Sunday morning around 8:30 a.m. near the popular Paradise Cove in Malibu when things went south fast. A man out fishing on his kayak found himself in a high-key dangerous situation after being attacked by a shark.

According to reports, the shark bit the kayaker, knocking him straight into the water. In a move that feels like something out of a movie, the shark circled back and hit him with a second bite.

Real talk, the guy was luckyβ€”a nearby fisherman witnessed the whole thing and rushed to pull him out of the water and onto his boat. The victim managed to call his girlfriend, a retired lifeguard, who hit up 911. Los Angeles County lifeguards then swooped in to get him back to shore, where an ambulance was waiting to take him for treatment.

Video from the scene shows lifeguards sprinting through the water during the rescue, though the shark itself is nowhere to be seen in the footage. While initial reports point to a possible mako, officials haven't confirmed the species or the full extent of the injuries yet. It's giving major "watch your back" energy for anyone heading into the water.

Why it matters

This incident is a reminder that sharks are always in the mix along the Southern California coast. They often hit shallow waters near the shore to hunt for food, especially around dawn and dusk, which is why beachgoers and lifeguards are staying on high alert.
