The ultimate hometown flex

Real talk: it’s giving legend status. Aussie hip-hop icons Hilltop Hoods just got the ultimate hometown shout-out today as the City of Adelaide unveiled 'Hilltop Hoods Lane' in the CBD. Located right off Hindley Street—the city's legit music hub—the laneway now features some epic murals by artist Vans the Omega.

Members Suffa, Pressure, and DJ Debris were there for the ceremony, and they were lowkey shook by the gesture. Pressure shared that teenage him would have never believed they'd have a street named after them, calling it "an absolute honor." Suffa added that the tribute makes them feel even more connected to the place they call home.

Why they're the G.O.A.T.

These guys are definitely not underdogs anymore. Since forming in the Adelaide Hills, they’ve racked up 1.1 million album sales, 2 billion global streams, and a massive 10 ARIA Awards. They currently hold the record for the most No. 1 albums by an Australian group, successfully surpassing legends like AC/DC and Cold Chisel. Their 2003 hit "Nosebleed Section" is even registered with the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia. Talk about main character energy.

It’s not just about the stats, though. The crew has used their platform to give back in a major way, raising over A$640,000 for roadies during the pandemic and nearly A$100,000 for Lion Hearts Learning through a memorabilia auction earlier this year.

Why it matters

Adelaide’s Lord Mayor, Dr. Jane Lomax-Smith, summed it up perfectly: despite their massive international success, the band has never forgotten their roots. Hilltop Hoods Lane is now the sixth addition to the city’s "City of Music" trail, joining other icons like Sia Furler and Paul Kelly. It’s a permanent reminder that no matter how big they get, they’ll always be an Adelaide staple.
