Things got messy in Fort Collins on Saturday. Colorado State’s defense was absolutely getting cooked by Oregon State, and head coach Jim Mora Jr. decided he had seen enough. After Oregon State started piling up points, Mora pulled the plug on defensive coordinator Tyson Summers mid-game.## The sudden exit
Summers was replaced as play-caller by co-defensive coordinator Kenny McClendon midway through the first quarter. Once he lost his duties, Summers didn't just walk to the locker room—he straight-up left the stadium. He never returned to the sidelines for the rest of the game. "Tyson was relieved of his playcalling duties," Mora said post-game. "He left the field and is no longer with this football program."
The fallout
The move was a total hail mary, but it didn't really fix the vibes. The Rams surrendered 14 points in the first quarter, 21 in the second, and another 21 in the second half, ending in a massive 56-point performance by Oregon State. The defense has been struggling all season, ranking 129th nationally by giving up 34.3 points per game. Giving up 56 on Saturday is definitely going to tank that stat even further.## Why it matters
It’s rare to see a coach get the boot in the middle of a live game, but it's giving major "do or die" energy from Mora. By officially cutting ties with Summers immediately, the team is signaling that the current defensive production is a massive L and they’re desperate to find a new identity before the season slips away entirely.
