The end of an era
Real talk: Binance is pulling the plug on its Bitcoin mining operations. The exchange announced Tuesday that it will shut down Binance Pool, along with a suite of related services, on November 10. If you’ve been using their mining infrastructure, it’s time to find a new home for your hashrate before things go dark.
What exactly is being cut?
It’s not just the main pool getting the boot. Binance is nuking Pool Savings, Cloud Mining, the Transaction Accelerator, and all those handy Telegram and email alerts. Even the API is going offline. After 07:00 UTC on November 10, the exchange will disable its Stratum URLs—the server addresses your hardware uses to connect—and will stop accepting or crediting any mining shares.
Why now?
Binance says this is just part of an "ongoing review" of their products, but the vibes suggest they are pivoting hard. The exchange has been busy expanding into traditional finance, recently launching access to over 7,000 US stocks and ETFs. By moving into equities, they’re clearly trying to de-risk and stop being so dependent on the wild volatility of crypto market cycles.
What you need to do
If you have skin in the game, pay attention. You need to point your hardware to a different pool before the deadline. If you’ve got funds in Pool Savings, make sure to unsubscribe or redeem your positions ASAP. Binance noted that final rewards and balances will be processed post-shutdown, but you need to wrap up any identity verification by 23:59 UTC on November 10 to ensure you get your payout. The pages will stay visible until November 24, but after that, they’re gone for good.
Why it matters
Binance Pool was a major player, holding about 2.3% of the network’s total hashrate. Its departure signals a major shift as exchanges move away from the early-era "do everything" approach to focus on streamlined, trad-fi integrated business models. Always remember: keeping your own bags secure and understanding the tools you use is key—none of this is financial advice.
