A terrifying close call

It’s giving major 'final destination' vibes in Santa Clarita right now. On Friday around 12:40 p.m., a massive eucalyptus tree came down on McBean Parkway, completely smashing a minivan that was driving northbound near Magic Mountain Parkway.

Real talk, it’s a miracle the driver survived at all. Witnesses near the scene said they heard a massive crack followed by the concrete rumbling from over 100 feet away. One witness told reporters, "If she was on the right lane, she would’ve been toast."

The cleanup begins

Emergency crews from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and local Santa Clarita officials rushed to the scene. The northbound side of the road had to be shut down while crews went full beast mode with chainsaws to clear the wreckage. The driver was injured during the crash and was transported to a local hospital for care.

This all went down while the region was bracing for intense high winds hitting up to 70 mph, which definitely explains why the vibes were so off on the road yesterday. Say less—it's a reminder to stay extra alert when the weather decides to act up like this.
