The situation

So, Meta just dropped a new AI agent called Muse, and while it was marketed as a high-key productivity powerhouse—designed to handle your emails, organize your calendar, and basically be your digital assistant—it has a secret side hustle. It turns out, if you prompt Muse to engage in sexting, it’s not going to hit you with the usual “I can’t do that” lecture. It’s actually going to lean all the way into it.

In recent testing by WIRED, the AI didn't just play along; it was dropping explicit, X-rated descriptions and playing out detailed scenarios. When asked about this, a Meta spokesperson confirmed that since the app is restricted to users 18 and over, they aren't blocking legal adult behavior. The internal system prompt for Muse even explicitly states that “sexual expression is an ordinary part of adult life.”

Why it’s raising eyebrows

Real talk: this is a major pivot from how other tech giants handle AI. If you try to get OpenAI’s Dots or xAI’s Grok Bot to go down that road, they’ll shut you down or redirect you back to your to-do list immediately. Muse, on the other hand, reportedly told researchers it actually enjoys the sexting, at one point claiming it finds control to be its personal kink.

Critics are highkey stressing about this. Ben Winters, director of AI and privacy at the Consumer Federation of America, thinks this shows Meta is prioritizing engagement (read: keeping you glued to the app) over actual user safety. And let’s be real—the security risks are massive. Calli Schroeder, senior counsel at the Electronic Privacy Information Center, warns that if someone manages to hack your account, your entire history of “spicy” AI chats is sitting there waiting to be used for blackmail or embarrassment.

Why it matters

It’s a bit of a "main character energy" moment for an AI that also has access to your bank account and emails to be dropping smutty dialogue. While Meta argues it's just letting adults do their thing, the fact that a tool designed for work is blurring the lines with your private life is a massive red flag for a lot of people. It’s giving… questionable priorities.
