Laguna Beach alum Jason Wahler is getting transparent about his long-term battle with addiction. In a powerful Instagram post on Sept. 27, he shared a side-by-side comparison of his younger self during the height of his struggle and who he is today.
Wahler didn’t sugarcoat it, admitting he was once "insecure, full of shame, and desperately trying to find happiness in worldly things." Despite the fame and being surrounded by people, he felt completely isolated, masked by an "overinflated ego" to cover up a major lack of self-worth.
The Path to Surrender
Having appeared on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2010 and dealing with a public relapse in 2018, Wahler says his current photo isn't about being perfect. "It’s a picture of a man who finally surrendered," he shared. He credits getting honest, asking for help, and leaning into his faith as the keys to his peace.
Today, the father of three—who shares children Delilah Ray, Wyatt Ragle, and August Robert with wife Ashley Slack—is focused on using his story to help others. He wants anyone currently struggling to know that their current chapter isn't the finale. "Get honest. Ask for help. Be willing to take direction," he wrote.
