A shopping trip turned dangerous

It’s giving major main character energy gone wrong. A 21-year-old Indianapolis mother, Tamya Staten, is facing serious legal trouble after an absolute meltdown at a local 'Once Upon a Child' store. Staten was visiting the shop back in July to sell some of her toddler's clothes, but things went from zero to one hundred real quick when her child started riding a toy car around the floor.

When a staff member politely reminded her that store policy prohibits playing on the merchandise, the vibes went south immediately. According to court documents, Staten allegedly pulled a large black handgun from her leggings, pointed it at the workers, and basically told them it was on.

The situation escalated

Real talk, she didn't just stop at the weapon. Allegedly, Staten poked an employee in the face and told her kid to keep playing, saying, "We can fight about it. We can get down," and "I can use this [gun]."

Security cameras were recording the whole scene, which made catching her lowkey easy for the police. Investigators tracked her down using the license plate number on her car and the ID she had presented to store staff. Now, Staten is facing felony charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon and pointing a firearm at another person. If the court finds her guilty on both counts, she’s looking at up to eight and a half years in prison.

Why it matters

This incident highlights how quickly minor policy disagreements can spiral into life-threatening violence, landing someone in serious legal hot water. It’s a harsh reminder that keeping your cool is a W, while losing it like this can cost you years of your freedom.
