Imagine walking through Orlando International Airport (MCO) thinking your master plan to transport 200 pounds of weed is totally lowkey. Well, that was the vibe for a group of suspects in their 20s who recently learned that airport security is not the one to mess with.

According to police records from FOX 35 Orlando, these individuals tried to smuggle massive amounts of marijuana on commercial flights from Los Angeles to Orlando this summer. The tactics? It’s giving DIY gone wrong. Investigators say the suspects used dryer sheets to mask the scent and even superglued their luggage tags and locks shut to keep the feds out. Spoiler: it didn't work.

The busts

Undercover officers from the Orlando Police Department, backed by some very talented K-9 units, caught them in two separate instances. The first hit on May 7 turned up 57.6 pounds of weed tucked into vacuum-sealed bags and hidden under blankets. When July 1 rolled around, the bust was even bigger—144.4 pounds stuffed into suitcases that officers had to basically rip open because they were glued shut.

Can this actually happen?

Keith Jeffries, VP of K2 Security Screening Group, noted that while it’s not clear exactly how this weed made it onto the planes, traffickers often think they can outsmart security in big tourist hubs like Orlando. He pointed out that while we think of airport security as all-seeing, TSA’s job is strictly focused on safety threats, not specifically hunting down narcotics.

“TSA does not look for illegal narcotics,” Jeffries explained to Fox News Digital. “They simply say, ‘We’ve got an unknown substance, and we need law enforcement’s attention.”

The suspects are now facing serious felony drug trafficking charges. Real talk, trying to sneak illegal goods through an airport is a massive L.

Why it matters

This incident shines a light on how traffickers try to exploit high-traffic travel routes, and it serves as a massive reminder that law enforcement is keeping a close watch at baggage claim, even if the TSA isn't specifically looking for your stash.
