It’s giving absolute chaos in the Bronx right now. A terrifying scene unfolded in the Claremont neighborhood Saturday night when a gunman opened fire, leaving two people injured before barricading himself inside an apartment building.

What happened?

Just before 9:30 p.m., the NYPD rushed to the scene following reports of shots fired inside a residential building. According to police, the suspect fired multiple rounds in the hallway, striking two people. A 70-year-old woman was hit in the abdomen, and a 60-year-old man was struck in the torso.

The aftermath

Both victims were rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital and, thank god, they are currently in stable condition. The shooter, who hasn't been identified yet, eventually surrendered. He was seen being wheeled out of the building on a gurney by EMS crews. It’s still unclear if he had any connection to the people he shot, so the plot thickens while police continue their investigation.

Why it matters

This is a serious reminder of the gun violence that can happen in our neighborhoods out of nowhere. The investigation is still fresh, but knowing the victims are stable is the real tea for now. Stay alert out there, stay safe, and keep an eye on your surroundings.
