Still running the show

Real talk: Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton is officially entering its legendary era. As of this week, the original Broadway cast recording has spent its 500th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Cast Albums chart. It’s the only title in Billboard history to ever hit that milestone on a current chart, which is honestly giving total main character energy.

Since it dropped back on October 17, 2015, the album has spent a massive 87% of its life on the chart sitting pretty at the top. To put that in perspective, in the 21 years Billboard has been tracking this, only four other albums have even managed to hit 10 weeks at No. 1. The next closest is Wicked, which has had 355 weeks at the top, but Hamilton is just built different.

The legacy lives on

Beyond just the main album, the Hamilton universe has been busy. We’ve seen Hamilton: 10 Shots and the Rise Up! Hamilton: The Anthology box set both snag No. 1 spots on the chart too. Plus, The Hamilton Mixtape—the iconic collab project with legends like Kelly Clarkson and Alicia Keys—debuted at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 back in 2016.

Even on the mainstream Billboard 200, the show is a total W, peaking at No. 2 back in 2020 after hitting Disney+. It’s the only cast recording to ever spend 500 weeks on that list.

Why it matters

Hamilton isn't just a hit; it’s an absolute cultural juggernaut that completely redefined what Broadway music looks like on the charts. Seeing it hold the throne for 500 weeks proves that its replay value is absolutely elite.
