The new way to order
Real talk: opening an app when you're already starving is lowkey a chore. DoorDash is trying to solve this by launching a new AI agent that lives right inside your text messages. As of Wednesday, the company announced that you'll be able to use Apple Messages to tell an AI exactly what you want.
It’s giving 'personal assistant' vibes. You can send prompts like "order my usual," and the bot will actually know what you mean—like if you have a recurring Friday night rotation. If you're indecisive, you can ask for a specific dish or just request a vibe check for local recommendations. It’ll search, suggest a cart, and even shoot you a text with photos of the food so you know it’s legit before you hit checkout.
Solving the group order struggle
If you’ve ever had to manage a group order, you know the vibes are usually off because everyone is extra about their dietary restrictions. DoorDash claims their AI can handle mixed preferences and different quantities all in one go. If this actually works, it’s a total W for group hangs.
The drone update
While the AI is the main character right now, DoorDash also dropped news that they’re starting to test delivery drones with select restaurants in Northern California. They’re clearly trying to stay ahead of Uber Eats and Grubhub by making the whole process of getting food as low-effort as possible.
If you want in, DoorDash is currently taking sign-ups for a waitlist for users in the U.S.
Why it matters
We’re moving into an era of 'personal AI agents' designed to skip the UI altogether. If DoorDash can get us to stop clicking through menus and just start texting our orders, they save you time and keep you locked into their ecosystem instead of the competition's. Say less.
