A devastating case in Illinois is reaching the courtroom as Corie Walsh, 40, officially pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges on Thursday. The charges stem from the death of her 2-year-old son, Barrett Walsh, earlier this month.
The details of the case
According to court documents, the child was discovered in the basement of the family’s Frankfort home on September 1. Barrett’s older siblings reportedly found him in the basement and rushed to a neighbor for help. Despite the neighbor's attempt to perform CPR, the toddler was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy confirmed the child died of asphyxia due to ligature compression.
Police found Walsh in the home’s bathtub, which was filled with bloodied water, after she allegedly attempted to end her own life. Court records state that Walsh confessed to the killing, making disturbing claims that the child was the “anti-Christ.” Her husband was present in the courtroom on Thursday to support her during the preliminary hearing.
