The New i3 Specs

BMW is finally spilling the tea on its revamped i3. After keeping us in the dark earlier this year, the automaker has confirmed that the 2027 i3 50 xDrive will officially hit the streets in the first quarter of 2027. The starting price? $62,850 (that’s $61,500 plus a $1,350 destination fee).

Under the hood, this thing is packing a dual-motor setup delivering 463 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque. It’s also using BMW’s new “Gen6” cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells, which offer a 20 percent bump in energy density over the old stuff. While BMW is playing coy about the exact battery capacity, they are promising a solid 468 miles of range on a single charge based on EPA testing. That’s lowkey impressive and keeps them competitive with rivals like the Mercedes C-Class.

Tech Overload

This isn't just a car; it’s a living room on wheels. The dash has been completely overhauled, ditching traditional gauges for a windshield projection that actually works with polarized sunglasses (a major W). You get a massive 17.9-inch touchscreen, and you can even drag-and-drop widgets from that screen directly onto the windshield. Plus, the steering wheel features “shy-tech” buttons that only glow when you need them.

BMW is also finally integrating the AI-powered version of Amazon Alexa, so you can talk to your car like you’re talking to a friend. If you’re parked, you can kill time with TiVo or Amazon Prime Video. And if you’re a total speed freak, keep an eye out for the performance-focused M60 xDrive variant coming later in 2027.

Why it matters

BMW is positioning the new i3 to be a high-tech powerhouse that justifies its price tag by merging luxury aesthetics with serious range and next-gen software. It’s giving main character energy in the EV space—assuming they can actually deliver on that 468-mile promise without the usual marketing fluff.
