The latest resignation

Shelby Reilly, co-host and producer of the lifestyle program "Good Day Live" at WTWO in Terre Haute, Indiana, is the latest face to exit the Nexstar-owned station. Reilly announced her departure on social media, telling followers she plans to sign off next month. "For a long time, I thought I would do this forever. But somewhere along the way, my dreams changed," she wrote. Reilly is married to Zeke Torres, a former station anchor who previously worked as a reporter and weekend anchor at WTWO before pivoting to a communications role at Indiana State University.

The scandal background

This departure comes as the station struggles with ongoing turbulence following the messy exits of meteorologists Alex Kerkhove and Jesse Walker. Their intense work-buddy dynamic gained public attention after rumors swirled that they were "obsessed with each other," leading coworkers to describe the situation as "creepy." While the pair maintained their bond was strictly a mentorship and friendship—with Kerkhove referring to Walker as her "station dad"—management allegedly kept a close watch on their interactions. Kerkhove claimed that supervisors monitored security cameras to ensure they spent no more than 20 minutes talking per shift. Walker, a veteran with over 40 years at the station, was ultimately walked out early by Nexstar, denying him a final on-air goodbye. He and Kerkhove have since moved on to launch their own weather company.

Why it matters

In the world of local news, high turnover—or "churn"—is a major L for production consistency. When your talent pool hits the exits due to toxic vibes or HR nightmares, it costs the station money to recruit, train, and rebuild brand loyalty with the local audience. For Reilly, it's a pivot to whatever comes next; for WTWO, it's another sign that the plot continues to thicken as staff morale remains a massive question mark.
