The QB shuffle
The Chicago Bears are playing musical chairs with their quarterback situation, and things are moving fast. Head coach Ben Johnson confirmed that backup QB Tyson Bagent hit the practice field on Saturday, giving the team a much-needed morale boost. This is huge because it keeps him in the conversation to start against the Philadelphia Eagles this Monday.
The current sitch
It’s giving major uncertainty. While Bagent returning is a W, he’s still technically in concussion protocol. He needs to stack up consecutive days without symptoms to get the final green light. Coach Johnson is keeping the cards close to his chest, saying, "Still a lot of time between now and kickoff." He didn't promise Bagent the starting role over Case Keenum just yet, noting that he needs to see how everyone performs during these final practices.
Meanwhile, it’s confirmed that starter Caleb Williams is officially out for Monday’s game due to his hamstring injury. Bagent stepped in for Williams during the Week 2 loss to Minnesota, but he took a hit there that landed him in the concussion protocol. If Bagent isn't 100% ready, Case Keenum—who has 66 career starts—is waiting in the wings. Bagent signed a two-year, $10 million extension with Chicago back in 2025, so the team is clearly invested in his potential.
Why it matters
The Bears are in a scramble to keep their offense afloat without their QB1. Whether it’s the young Bagent or the veteran Keenum taking snaps on Monday, the game plan against Philly is going to look a lot different. Real talk: this game is pivotal for the Bears to get back on track after last week's loss.
