The Vibe Shift at 2640 Main St.

Real talk: the nightlife era for The Victorian is officially entering its villain era—or rather, a total rebrand. After serving the Santa Monica scene for 20 years, the iconic nightlife staple is closing its doors. But the space isn’t going dark; it’s being transformed into a high-end private members club called The Santa Monican.

The Money Moves

Operators Garner Gerson and Adir Tal made the call that the late-night business model had run its course. They pitched the city on a shift toward a “family-focused” concept, and the city council was all in, voting 7-0 back in March to transfer the lease to The Santamonican Club, LLC. The new space is set to include a pool, spa, fitness center, a coffee bistro, and a restaurant.

It’s giving exclusive, but they’re keeping it local: 20% of memberships are officially reserved for Santa Monica residents. Renovations are slated to kick off by the end of this year, with an opening targeted for mid-2028.

Why it matters

This is a masterclass in market pivots. When the foot traffic or profit margins on a late-night model don't hit the same, you’ve got to read the room. City Manager Oliver Chi noted that the city’s goal was to ensure the historic 1892 property stays active rather than sitting vacant. For the locals, it’s a major L for the nightlife scene, but a potential W for the wellness-obsessed crowd.
