New shows on the horizon
John de Mol’s Talpa Studios is officially heading to the Mipcom TV market next week with a fresh slate of entertainment that is lowkey going to be everywhere soon. The headliners are "Sing With Me" and "The Golden Elevators."
"Sing With Me" is a feelgood music show co-developed with IDTV, the minds behind "The Traitors." The premise is actually iconic: up-and-coming singers perform solo, but if an established star hears something special, they can jump on stage and turn it into a duet. It’s giving wholesome energy and launches in the Netherlands on November 7.
Then there is "The Golden Elevators." This quiz show is highkey intense—contestants enter a skyscraper and have to pick between two elevators to answer 10 questions. Get it right and you go up; get it wrong and you're out. It’s a mix of general knowledge and social strategy where players can work together or absolutely wreck their rivals’ chances. It’s already been ordered in the U.K. and the Netherlands.
The strategy behind the screen
Talpa Studios is really leaning into partnerships to make their ideas travel, with over 40% of their catalog now coming from collaborations. CEO Maarten Meijs is leading the charge, and distribution director Sebastian van Barneveld says that in this market, you need more than just a creative idea—you need flexibility.
Their other hits aren't slowing down either. "The Floor" is currently active in over 30 territories, and other formats like "The Alliance" and "Caught in the Middle" are securing second seasons and global adaptations. Real talk, with De Mol—the legend behind "Big Brother" and "The Voice"—at the helm, it’s not surprising they’re expanding so fast. They currently have 26 formats live across 34 countries.
Why it matters
As the TV landscape shifts, the industry is moving toward these highly social, strategy-heavy formats that keep viewers hooked. By teaming up with global partners, Talpa is ensuring their shows reach international audiences, proving that the right concept can truly go viral across any border.
