In a disturbing incident out of Stawell, Victoria, a 15-year-old boy was lured into a trap and assaulted by a group of peers. The victim, who is autistic and has epilepsy, was reportedly coerced into a meeting near a train station on October 5 via a fake setup on Snapchat involving two girls.

What happened

Captured on video, the assault shows the boy being repeatedly punched and kicked by a group of teenagers while others looked on. The attackers went as far as demanding the victim’s shoes before letting him leave. According to the victim’s mother, he sustained soft tissue and potential head injuries, and he is currently undergoing medical scans to check for brain bleeds. "I’m just lucky to have him alive," the mother stated. The victim has returned home, but the trauma of the event has left him fearful of leaving the house.

The fallout

Victoria Police have been working the case since the attack occurred. Following a series of four search warrants in the region, authorities arrested three boys—a 14-year-old and two 15-year-olds. The trio is facing multiple charges, including robbery, affray, theft, and recklessly causing injury. They are scheduled to appear in a children’s court. A fourth boy is also expected to be interviewed as the investigation remains active.

Superintendent Dan Davison addressed the community’s valid concerns, stating, "There is never any excuse for violence in our community, and we will not accept it in any form." Local police are increasing patrols throughout Stawell to keep the vibes safe while the investigation moves forward.

Why it matters

This incident is highkey tragic and shows the dark side of digital meetups. When anonymous apps are used to orchestrate physical violence against vulnerable members of our community, it's a massive L for safety standards. It’s a harsh reminder to keep your guard up, as the plot thickens on how online interactions can turn dangerous IRL.
