A nightmare unfolded in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, after a 6-year-old boy reached out for help because he and his 3-year-old sibling were hungry. When the boy’s grandmother and a family friend arrived at the home on Saturday, they discovered both children suffering from horrific injuries. Deputies were called to the scene around 2:30 p.m. to find the house in total disarray.
The charges
Taylor Gosnell, 35, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime. According to investigators, the children sustained a combined total of approximately 50 stab wounds, with some injuries so deep they hit the bone. Arrest warrants allege Gosnell used a baseball bat and a circular knife in the attack. The children were rushed to a hospital, where they are undergoing surgeries; officials noted the 6-year-old may lose his arm due to the severity of the trauma.
The arrest
Gosnell actually returned to the home while law enforcement was still investigating. Deputies observed behavior that suggested she was in a mental health crisis and attempted to transport her to a hospital for evaluation. She allegedly tried to bolt from the ambulance but was restrained. After being medically cleared, she was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Facility and denied bond. When detectives tried to question her, she invoked her right to an attorney. The children are now in protective custody.
Why it matters
This case is a total gut-punch. It’s a devastating reminder of the dangers lurking behind closed doors, and it highlights how critical it is to listen when someone—especially a child—reaches out for help. The real tea here is the sheer brutality of the violence, which has left the local community shaken.
