In a harrowing case coming out of the UK, 38-year-old Sean Peers has entered a guilty plea for assault by penetration. The victim was an unconscious woman who had been drugged by her husband—who invited other men to abuse her over a period of more than two decades. Peers was originally set to stand trial with 11 other men, but he changed his plea at Manchester Minshull Street crown court.

The legal proceedings

The husband involved in the case, who remains unnamed to protect the victim, has already admitted to multiple offenses. Additionally, Keith Fotheringham, a 59-year-old from Dundee, has also entered a guilty plea.

Judge Maurice Greene informed the jury that the proceedings have been delayed until October 19. This pause allows defense lawyers time to review new information provided in a witness statement from the victim's husband.

Who is facing trial

While some have already admitted their guilt, 11 other men are currently preparing for a trial expected to span nine weeks. They are facing a range of charges, including rape and attempted rape, related to abuse alleged to have occurred between 2018 and November 2025. The defendants include Philip Wild, Jordan Wallace, Alan Keelan, Jonathan Kirk, Robert Stewart, Mohammed Sabir, Graham Brougham, Richard Townsend, Karl Lindsay, Daniel Rayner, and David Graves.

Why it matters

This case has brought to light a disturbing long-term pattern of abuse facilitated by a spouse. As the court prepares for the upcoming trial, the legal system is working to address the gravity of these collective crimes, with sentencing expected for all involved once the proceedings conclude in mid-December.
