The foodie glow-up

If you’re someone who lives for that perfect bite, you might want to look toward the Bay Area. San Francisco just secured the No. 3 spot on WalletHub’s latest ranking of the best U.S. cities for foodies, and honestly? The vibes are immaculate. Despite the rep for being pricey, the city is actually hitting different when it comes to balancing high-quality eats with affordability.

WalletHub crunched the numbers on over 180 cities, looking at 28 different metrics—everything from the cost of a grocery haul to how many craft breweries and farmers markets are lurking in your neighborhood. It’s not just about the fancy stuff, either; the study looked at access to affordable, highly-rated spots, and San Francisco is holding its own.

More than just Michelin stars

We all know about the 25 Michelin-starred spots—including three with that legendary three-star status—but that’s just the main character energy the city brings to the table. San Francisco also ranked sixth in the nation for restaurant diversity and fourth for access to healthy food. Plus, if you’re trying to level up your home-cooking game, the city is leading the pack for spice shops and international grocery stores. It’s giving culinary powerhouse, no cap.

The full leaderboard

Miami claimed the No. 1 spot, taking the crown for having a massive number of affordable, top-rated restaurants. Portland, Oregon, snagged second place, mostly because their craft brewery scene is elite and they don’t tax food.

If you’re repping other parts of California, don't worry, the state is still winning. Sacramento hit No. 9, San Diego landed at No. 12, and Los Angeles rounded out the top 20 at No. 17.

Why it matters

Food is basically our love language, and knowing where to find a solid meal without the wallet-crushing price tag is a W. It’s proof that a city doesn't have to be just for the elite to have a world-class food scene.
