Pringles is leaning hard into the spooky season with a new sweepstakes that is highkey bizarre. They are offering one super fan the chance to be laid to rest in a custom-made cremation urn shaped exactly like their iconic snack tube.
The bag alert
This isn't just about the urn, which is valued at $500. The grand prize includes $28,080 in cash. Pringles says this covers an “afterlifetime” supply of chips, calculated as one $2.70 can per week for 200 years. That’s 10,400 cans of snacks, though you’re getting the cash, not a truckload of chips delivered to the cemetery.
Why it's a thing
This is actually a nod to Fredric J. Baur, the guy who designed the Pringles can. He was so obsessed with his invention that he asked his family to bury him in one. When he passed in 2008, his family actually followed through and put some of his remains inside a Pringles Original container.
To enter, you need to head over to OnceYouDrop.com and sign a digital “Will and Taste-ament” proving your loyalty to the brand. Real talk: the pledge isn't legally binding, so you don't actually have to commit to the burial part to get the prize. The sweepstakes is open to U.S. residents 18+, with entries closing on Oct. 22 and the winner being picked right around Halloween.
Why it matters
It’s a masterclass in absurdist marketing. Mars Snacking exec Mauricio Jenkins noted the campaign was designed to tap into "Gen Z’s appetite for absurdist storytelling." Whether you want the urn or just the $28k, it’s a W for your bank account.
