A trip gone wrong
Real talk: the vibes are currently off in Cleveland. Phoenix Phillips, a 24-year-old dad from Perryville, Maryland, traveled to Ohio last week with high hopes to catch the Steelers-Browns Thursday Night Football game. He was there for the same reason many of us would be—the love of the game—but the situation has since taken a terrifying turn.
Phillips was last seen in downtown Cleveland this past Friday. According to local police, he somehow got separated from the person he was traveling with, and since then, no one has been able to track his next move. Cleveland police spokesperson Sgt. Freddy Diaz told WEWS that authorities are still working to piece together exactly what went down after he lost contact with his companion.
The search intensifies
Breejanee Alford, a social worker who has been supporting Phillips’ family, said they are absolutely devastated. “They’re telling me that he’s a loving dad and he also loves the Steelers,” Alford shared with WEWS. Sylvia Colon, co-founder of the non-profit Cleveland Missing, confirmed that he had made the trip specifically for the rivalry matchup.
As of Tuesday, the plot thickens. Reports from Cleveland 19 indicate that a body was recovered from the Cuyahoga River near Jacobs Pavilion. While the news is highkey stressful, officials have not yet confirmed if the discovery is connected to the search for Phillips.
Phillips is described as 6-foot-1, weighing approximately 170 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes. For now, the investigation remains ongoing, and his family is holding out hope for answers.
Why it matters
