A New Beginning
The Minnesota Vikings just made a major power move to shore up their roster, signing veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the practice squad. This follows his release from the New York Giants on September 29, where the vibes were frankly off. After being signed in June, he logged zero catches and zero targets across three games. It’s giving missed opportunity.
Reunion Vibes
This isn't a random pickup. OBJ is reuniting with Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell. Back in 2021, when O'Connell was the offensive coordinator for the Rams, the duo was electric. Beckham racked up 305 yards and five touchdowns in just eight regular-season games. Even better? He was an absolute main character during that Super Bowl LVI run before suffering a tough ACL injury. Real talk, that chemistry is why Minnesota is banking on him now.
The WR Room
Minnesota definitely needs the insurance. With superstar Justin Jefferson currently battling an ankle injury—which sidelined him for the Week 5 win over Miami—the depth chart behind Jordan Addison and Jauan Jennings was looking a little thin. At 33, OBJ might not be the same player who was a first-round pick in 2014, but he brings massive experience to the locker room. With 575 career catches and 59 touchdowns under his belt, say less—he's got the resume.
Why it matters
After a disappointing start to his second stint in New York, Beckham is looking for a comeback. By joining the Vikings, he gets to work with a coach who knows exactly how to utilize his talents, giving the team a veteran safety net while they chase the playoffs.
