The 'Nepo' Discourse

Michael Douglas is officially checking out of the 'nepo baby' conversation. During a chat on the SmartLess podcast with hosts Sean Hayes, Jason Bateman, and Will Arnett, the Wall Street legend admitted that being labeled as 'Hollywood royalty' because of his late father, Kirk Douglas, really pisses him off.

Real talk: he’s not feeling the heat on the nepotism debate. Douglas pointed out that helping your kids get a foot in the door is just standard practice in pretty much every industry. "I don’t know a career where a father or mother don’t try to help their son or daughter get into their business," he said. It’s giving double standards, and he’s clearly over it.

Sage Advice

When he wasn't shutting down the nepo discourse, Douglas dropped some solid wisdom for anyone trying to break into the biz. His main tip? It’s all about the script. He noted that since actors don't have a physical instrument or canvas like musicians or painters, you’re only as good as the project you're in. "A good piece of material, man, a good piece of material helps things along well," he explained.

With an Oscar for Wall Street and another for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, he definitely knows a thing or two about picking winners. Catch more of his iconic life story in his upcoming memoir, One Helluva Ride, dropping this Tuesday.
