Meta enters its hardware era

Forget your phone, because Meta is officially trying to replace it. On Wednesday, the company dropped Muse Charm, a tiny, keychain-sized AI device designed to put their viral Muse assistant right in your pocket.

Meta is the first tech giant to actually launch a brand-new hardware category, effectively beating OpenAI and Apple to the punch. It’s giving main character energy for the wearables market, especially since the device is set to drop this December.

The vision

Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg isn't playing small. During the Meta Connect keynote, he predicted that Muse is going to evolve into a “personal superintelligence” for billions of people worldwide.

Meta’s business model here is also pretty unique: they’re keeping Muse free for a massive amount of tokens. They’re betting that they’ll eventually make bank by taking a small cut from transactions users perform through the assistant.

What else is dropping?

Beyond the keychain, Meta is going hard on wearables:

  • New VR glasses: Meta previewed a 100-gram headset coming next spring for $1,299. It uses a wired “puck” to handle the computing, letting the display hit 5K resolution.
  • Retail power-ups: Muse is expanding its reach through partnerships with big names like Walmart, Best Buy, Sephora, and Gap.

Meanwhile, Meta is also trying to address those privacy concerns by working on a “Private Processing” system for its AI glasses, designed to keep your data locked down even when it’s being processed in the cloud.
