The return of the chaos

If you were worried that you’d seen the last of Paula’s chaotic soccer mom journey, say less. Apple TV just announced that Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed has officially been renewed for a second season.

For the uninitiated, the show is giving major main character energy with a twist. It follows Tatiana Maslany as Paula, a newly divorced mom who finds herself spiraling into a mess involving blackmail, a potential murder, and, for some reason, youth soccer. She’s navigating a custody battle and a total identity crisis, but then she thinks she witnesses a crime and decides to play detective. Real talk, the conspiracy she uncovers might actually save her family.

Who's in it?

Alongside Maslany, the cast features Jake Johnson as her ex, Karl. The rest of the lineup is stacked, including Murray Bartlett, Dolly De Leon, Brandon Flynn, Jessy Hodges, Jon Michael Hill, Charlie Hall, Kiarra Hamagami Goldberg, and Nola Wallace.

Behind the scenes

Creator and showrunner David J. Rosen revealed that the title literally came from a spam email—which is a total mood. Reflecting on the Season 1 finale, Rosen noted that the show played with our perception of Paula as a narrator, saying, “Paula is more complicated than we thought.”

Why it matters

It’s always a W when a show with a unique premise gets more time to cook. With the Season 1 finale reframing everything we thought we knew about Paula, Season 2 is set to be a wild ride as the mystery deepens.
