The golf world is shook. Jon Rahm has officially cut ties with LIV Golf, walking away from a massive nine-figure contract and a $7.5 million creditor claim. He basically traded his LIV rights to get his freedom back, and no cap, it’s a huge W for his career trajectory. With LIV Golf 2.0 looming and other players facing a tight Oct. 25 deadline to re-up, Rahm is charting his own path.

The current game plan

Rahm isn’t taking a break. He’s finishing out the 2026 season on the DP World Tour. He is already set to tee off at the Abu Dhabi Championship from Nov. 5–8, followed by a trip to Dubai. He’s currently sitting at No. 46 in the Race to Dubai, and he’s locked in for all four major championships next year. The vibes are officially back for him to compete at the highest level.

The PGA Tour comeback

So, can he jump back to the PGA Tour right away? It’s complicated. The Tour’s previous 'Returning Member' program—which Brooks Koepka used to get back in—is currently closed. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp has signaled he’s not looking to open new, special pathways for these returns.

However, Rahm has a major card up his sleeve: that 2023 Masters win. Thanks to that, he’s got a five-year exemption, which acts as a total 'get out of jail free' card. It lets him skip the lower-level grind and jump straight into the Championship Series by 2028 at the latest.

Why it matters

Real talk, Rahm is a father of four living in Arizona, so constant travel to Europe is a massive ask. He’s likely going to push for a deal with the PGA Tour to avoid the long-haul grind. Whether the Tour plays ball or forces him to pay up in penalties remains the big question—but with his talent level, you know he’s going to end up exactly where he belongs: back with the best in the game.
