The Vibe Shift in the Skies

If you’ve been tired of the cramped middle-seat struggle, JetBlue is finally trying to help with their new domestic first-class product, BlueFirst. The airline officially opened bookings for the new service yesterday across over 30 routes, and lowkey, the setup sounds like a major W for frequent flyers.

What You Get

This rollout isn't for their long-haul flights—those already have the Mint lie-flat seats—but it's coming to domestic routes where premium options were previously non-existent. The seats feature up to 5 inches of recline and offer 7 inches more legroom than standard Main seats. Perks include Bluetooth-enabled seatback screens, upgraded food and drink options, Group 1 boarding, and expedited security. It’s giving comfort without the international price tag.

The Numbers

JetBlue is currently pushing introductory fares to get people on board. You can snag a seat from Boston to Fort Lauderdale for $299, or get from New York to Fort Lauderdale for $249. They’re also running a $299 intro fare for flights from New York to Liberia, Costa Rica.

Starting December 8, the first of these flights will launch between Boston and Fort Lauderdale, with routes between Fort Lauderdale and New York’s LaGuardia Airport hitting the schedule shortly after. The airline is rolling these out across the board in the coming months as they hunt for steady profitability.

"We designed BlueFirst to deliver a more accessible first-class experience that combines the thoughtful hospitality and service customers expect from JetBlue with exceptional value and comfort," said JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty.

Why it matters

JetBlue is essentially chasing the bag by expanding their premium inventory. Because there’s high demand for roomier, high-end seating, they’re betting that travelers are ready to trade up for a better experience, which helps their bottom line during a period where the airline is aiming to return to consistent profitability.
