The situation

A 44-year-old Massachusetts man named Jacob D. Miller just pleaded guilty to a serious list of federal charges after being caught running an illegal business out of his South Hadley home. According to the US Attorney’s Office, Miller was importing radioactive plutonium and toxic thallium from Russia and shipping them to unsuspecting customers across the country.

The details

Miller ran a business called “Collect The Periodic Table,” where he sold these dangerous elements through his own site and on the retailer Bonanza. Records show he sold plutonium to 67 customers and thallium to another 71 between late 2020 and early 2025. It’s giving major red flags—especially since he was mailing this stuff through the U.S. Postal Service.

Investigators raided his home in April 2025 and found more than just elements. They uncovered explosive powder, rounds of ammunition, six illegal firearms, and new child sex abuse material on his devices. Miller had a previous conviction from 2004 for possessing child pornography and explosives. He has been in custody since his arrest last April and is scheduled for sentencing on January 21, 2027.

Why it matters

Plutonium is a radioactive material used in nuclear weapons and is deadly if ingested or inhaled, while thallium is a highly toxic, slow-acting poison. This isn't just a L for public safety; it's a federal crime that put dozens of people at risk. If you’ve ever bought "collectible" elements online, this is your reminder that the vibes were definitely off.
