The Dawgs run Tuscaloosa
Georgia just did the unthinkable. In a massive 20-17 road win at Bryant-Denny Stadium, the Bulldogs finally toppled Alabama on their home turf for the first time since 2007. Kirby Smart’s squad showed major main character energy, navigating a hostile environment to secure a statement win that has the rest of the SEC on high alert.
The winning formula
Georgia didn't have it easy. They were missing their top two running backs, Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens, but the team didn't miss a beat. Senior quarterback Gunner Stockton was the move, finishing 18-of-22 for 249 passing yards and two total touchdowns. His composure during a high-stakes 75-yard touchdown drive to open the second half was a total flex. The defense also held firm, proving they have the discipline and toughness Smart has spent years instilling in Athens.
Why it matters
This win is huge for Smart, who had previously struggled to beat Alabama in the regular season. While Georgia looks like the best team in the land right now, don't sleep on Alabama. Keelon Russell is still running that offense, and with how unpredictable the SEC has been lately—look at Texas falling to Oklahoma or LSU’s loss to Kentucky—we could easily see a massive rematch in December. For now, the Dawgs are sitting pretty, but as Smart says, the rest of the league is only a week away from a humbling experience.
