The vibes are officially off for the GOP heading into the midterms. According to a new Fox News poll, voters are feeling the pressure of the economy, and it’s hitting President Donald Trump’s approval ratings hard.
The Economic Struggle
Real talk: six in 10 voters say the cost of living is their biggest worry right now. That massive concern totally overshadows issues like government spending or taxes. Most people are feeling like they’re in a worse spot than they were two years ago, and a majority of voters—55%—straight up think inflation is not under control at all.
Approval Ratings and The Polls
President Trump’s overall job approval has dipped to 36%, which is his lowest ever in this survey. His handling of inflation is taking the biggest hit, with only 22% of voters approving of his performance there.
If the election were held today, 54% of voters say they’d back the Democratic candidate in their district, while 45% would go for the Republican. Even among the "double haters"—people who dislike both major parties—Democrats are pulling a significant lead of 62% to 36%.
Why it matters
This poll shows that voters aren't just voting on party lines; they're looking at who they think is "fighting for people like them." Democrats currently have a 14-point advantage on that specific metric. While Republicans still have an edge on crime and border security, Democrats are leading on issues like healthcare, inflation, and even AI. With the midterms closing in, the GOP has a major gap to close if they want to flip the narrative, and honestly? It’s giving high-stakes energy.
