The ultimate glow-up
Real talk: David Stockdale is doing the absolute most. The former Premier League goalkeeper—who spent time at clubs like Birmingham, Brighton, and Fulham—is officially in his renovation era. After Farsley Celtic collapsed into liquidation following a brutal financial nosedive, Stockdale stepped up to resurrect the club as the all-new FC Farsley.
The grind is real
When Stockdale first arrived as manager 19 months ago, the place was a total mess. We’re talking £750,000 in debt, derelict facilities, and unpaid players. It was a certified L for the local community. Instead of walking away, Stockdale and his family took ownership in a move they finalized on 'Mad Friday' right before Christmas. Now, they’re doing everything from running the cafe to acting as the kit man. Stockdale himself has been spotted on a digger and working as an electrician to get the site back in business. It’s giving main character energy, no cap.
Building the future
The vibes at the new ground are already shifting. While the club predicted a modest 140 fans for their first men’s game, 480 people showed up. The facilities are finally being put to work again for badminton, netball, and youth activities. Even club legend Adebayo Akinfenwa has joined as a shareholder to serve as the ultimate hype man.
Looking ahead, Stockdale has a massive vision: a £1.5m state-of-the-art artificial pitch. He wants this spot to be a premium hub for the entire west Leeds community. He’s 10 months into a 10-year plan, and he’s not backing down.
Why it matters
Football is nothing without the community, and Stockdale is proving that even when a club is basically dead, you can bring it back to life if you’re willing to put in the hours—and get a little mud on your boots.
