The shift
Is Byron Donalds lowkey distancing himself from President Trump? Internet sleuths noticed that references to the president—which used to be front and center on the Florida gubernatorial candidate’s website—have been scrubbed. Previously, his page featured a massive photo of the two together and explicitly promised to "Enact the Trump Agenda." Now? The vibe is different. The "Issues" page has ditched the presidential branding entirely, replacing it with the slogan: "Accountable, Achievable, Affordable!"
The explanation
Donalds isn’t sweating the speculation. During an onstage interview Wednesday at the Sunshine Economy Summit, he told WLRN’s Tom Hudson that the website overhaul has been in the works for months. He claimed the changes are strictly about refining his message for the general election. "The voters of Florida want to know the policies you're going to implement to make their lives better," Donalds said, insisting that his commitment to the president's "common-sense agenda" remains intact.
The reality check
While Donalds maintains he’s still on board with the president’s platform, the optics are definitely giving "distance." He is still listed as a Trump campaign surrogate and the president's endorsement remains on a scrolling list of names, but the full-scale "Trump-first" branding that defined his earlier campaign is gone. With the election heating up, the real tea is whether Florida voters are buying his pivot to a policy-heavy, candidate-centered focus.
Why it matters
In politics, your website is your digital storefront. By toning down the explicit Trump branding, Donalds is making a strategic choice to shift focus toward local "affordability" themes. For you, this means watching to see if this move actually helps him appeal to a broader base of Florida voters, or if he's just going to confuse the die-hard base that helped get him here.
