A wild secret life exposed
Ever wonder if the guy cooking your brunch is actually a fugitive on the run? A man wanted for an alleged kidnapping and shooting in Iowa back in 2012 has finally been caught after nearly 14 years of living a secret life in San Diego.
Brian Anthony Williams, 50, was living in the ritzy Mission Beach area under the name “Troy Williams.” He wasn't just laying low, either—he was working as a head chef at Miss B’s Coconut Club. He even gained a level of local fame, popping up in local media and television spots. One Times of San Diego profile even highlighted his alleged life story, claiming he grew up in the Queensbridge Housing Project in NYC and overcame major hardships.
The charges stack up
In reality, Brian Anthony Williams had been on the lam since 2012. Authorities say he was part of a group that allegedly kidnapped, assaulted, and shot a woman in Davenport, Iowa, before dumping her in a field. He is facing serious charges, including first-degree kidnapping, assault causing serious injury, conspiracy to commit a felony, first-degree arson, and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
US Marshals finally caught up with him on Tuesday at a business on Mission Boulevard after receiving a tip back in September. He is now set to be extradited back to Iowa to face the music.
Why it matters
This case is a reminder that you really don't know who’s behind the counter, no cap. US Marshal Ted Kamatchus noted that while some fugitives think they’ve bested the system, law enforcement stays on the hunt. It’s a total reality check—if you’re on the run for heinous crimes, the plot thickens eventually, and the law usually wins.
