The receipts
It’s giving major messy energy on the campaign trail. Bobby Pulido, the Latin Grammy-winning singer and House candidate in Texas, is currently in hot water after a string of his old, super-vulgar X posts went viral. Pulido is trying to flip a seat currently held by Republican Rep. Monica De La Cruz, but these resurfaced comments have definitely shifted the vibes.
So, what did he actually say? The posts, many of which have been scrubbed, include some seriously questionable interactions. In one 2019 exchange, a user joked about being raped in his dressing room, and Pulido responded, “Shhh… it was our secret.” In 2020, he told a woman to “shave your p—y” after she asked for advice on her hair. He’s also been caught making jokes about “casting couches” and shared imagery that’s just plain gross.
The defense
Pulido is not backing down, though. He posted a video claiming these were just “old jokes” with friends and that his critics are misinterpreting “Mexican humor.” He’s lowkey blaming the “woke right” for the scrutiny, saying the sarcasm doesn't translate well. His campaign has also previously had to handle drama regarding his ties to former bandmate Frankie Caballero, who was convicted of sexually assaulting a child in 2014.
Why it matters
The race between Pulido and De La Cruz is a total toss-up right now. With the election heating up, voters have to decide if these years-old tweets are just a "cringe" past or a red flag for how he’d represent them in Congress. The real tea is that in a race this close, any controversy can decide who wins, so stay tuned.
