If you missed the vibes at this year’s Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) Gala, you totally missed out. The sixth annual fundraiser took over the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on Wednesday night, and it was absolutely giving main character energy. Hosted by Kenny Burns and presented by Live Nation, the night wasn't just about red carpets—it was a real talk session about the power of Black music to shape culture and fight for justice.

BMAC co-founder and CEO Willie “Prophet” Stiggers set the tone early, reminding everyone that this wasn't just another industry party. “Black music has always been more than music. It has been how we told our story when others tried to write it for us,” Stiggers said during his opening remarks.

The big winners

It was a night of massive Ws for some absolute icons. Here’s who took home the hardware:

  • Common snagged the Harry Belafonte Change Agent Award, with his mom, Dr. Mahlia Hines, doing the honors.
  • Patti LaBelle took home the Icon Award, presented by Lee Daniels. She also got a surprise plaque from the RIAA and BMAC to celebrate her legendary run.
  • Public Enemy (Chuck D and Flavor Flav) were honored with the Social Impact Award. The duo got a standing ovation, and Chuck D dropped some wisdom: “Action means do something, coalition means we’re all together.”
  • Nicole Wyskoarko (Interscope Geffen A&M) received the Sylvia Rhone Visionary Award.
  • Tina Davis (EMPIRE) picked up the Clarence Avant Trailblazer Award.
  • THE·TEAM (Kevin Shivers, Lee Anderson, Mallory Smith, and Marty Diamond) won the Founders Award.
  • Universal Music Group’s Global Impact Team took home the BMAC 365 Award.

Why it matters

This gala isn't just about fancy statues; the funds go directly into programs like the Music Accelerator at Tennessee State University, Music Maker grants, and the Restore & Rebuild LA initiative. It’s all about putting money and resources back into the hands of those who are shifting the culture. If you love the music, you’ve got to respect the movement behind it—no cap.
