Market update

Bitcoin is putting in work today, rebounding toward the $84,000 mark after Monday’s dip. According to TradingView, BTC/USD saw a 2.5% gain, hitting $83,944 on Bitstamp. It’s giving main character energy, especially since the wider markets are looking pretty rough right now.

The KOSPI rout

While Bitcoin is holding the line, the vibes are off for the South Korean KOSPI Composite Index, which has shed 7.4% this week. The index just dipped below its 200-day moving average, a move we haven't seen since July. Semiconductor stocks are getting cooked—SK Hynix closed down over 10%, and Samsung is still reeling from last week’s disappointing Q3 earnings report.

Foreign investors have offloaded about 173 trillion won—that’s roughly $129 billion—in SK Hynix and Samsung shares this year alone. Analysts suggest the sell-off is a result of investors getting jittery and looking to secure profits on AI-heavy stocks that previously outperformed. Vey-Sern Ling, a senior equity advisor at UBP, noted that competition from China is adding extra pressure, even if the Chinese tech sector is still facing its own hurdles.

Why BTC is staying firm

Unlike the August flash crash where everything dropped in sync, Bitcoin is currently carving its own path, hanging out in that $80,000 to $87,000 range. This relative strength is holding up even though investors are lowkey cooling off on spot Bitcoin ETFs, which have logged $451 million in net outflows so far in October.

Traders are watching the $84,000 level like a hawk. CoinGlass data shows a heavy wall of ask liquidity sitting right there, which is why the bulls are finding it tough to break through. Everyone’s eyes are on the upcoming U.S. inflation data and the Fed’s October 28 rate decision, with analysts expecting rates to stay parked at 2.75–4%.

Why it matters

Real talk: crypto is volatile, and just because BTC is outperforming tech stocks right now doesn't mean it's immune to broader economic shifts. Always remember that this is not financial advice, and you should definitely do your own research before moving your bags around.
