The Incident

Real talk: this is highkey nightmare fuel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu just dropped some serious details regarding that chaotic FlyDubai flight bound for Israel. We already knew things got dicey, but the new info is heavy—it's giving major thriller movie vibes.

According to Netanyahu, the Omani pilot allegedly went rogue and started attacking his colleague, Capt. Smit Machchhar. The plane reportedly went into a scary, thousands-of-feet spiral while this was all going down.

The Heroics

It’s a massive W for humanity that the situation didn't end in tragedy. Capt. Machchhar, despite being stabbed, managed to unlock the cockpit door. That’s when Yaniv Hayun—an Israeli plumber who was on the flight—stepped up. Hayun found the Omani pilot hovering over the controls, reportedly trying to jam them.

Hayun didn't hesitate; he literally pulled back on the aircraft’s controls to steady the plane while another passenger and a crew member jumped in to subdue the attacker. Reserve pilots eventually made their way in to stabilize the flight completely. Netanyahu noted that he met Hayun at the airport, describing the plumber as being "drenched" in the captain's blood after the ordeal.

Investigation Status

The suspect is currently being held for interrogation in Saudi Arabia, with the UAE giving the green light for Israel to participate in the process. While the vibes are clearly off, Netanyahu explicitly told CNN that investigators don't have any proof connecting Tehran to the incident. President Trump has since been briefed, calling the stabbed captain a "hero" and giving props to the plumber for his quick thinking.

Why it matters

Netanyahu didn't mince words, stating, "Those pilots managed to prevent a 9/11 disaster, because that's what it looks like was happening." The PM also touched on his own history with these types of situations, referencing the 1972 Sabena flight rescue and his brother Yoni’s death during the 1976 Entebbe operation. It’s a sobering reminder of how fast things can go south when the flight deck becomes a battleground.
