The shift in hiring
If you were hoping to land an entry-level gig at Anthropic, the vibes are off. A new report from the company shows that as of 2026, they are significantly scaling back on junior-level hiring. Since early 2025, the percentage of junior employees in their tech departments dropped from 21% to 14%, and the intake of new junior technical talent plummeted from 27% to just 9%.
Anthropic says their tech teams now make up a smaller slice of the overall company pie (dropping from 61% to 56%), largely because coding tools now allow non-tech employees to handle their own software needs.
The "babysitting" struggle
Real talk: Using AI for everything comes with a cost. One employee described the "eternal pressure" to use Claude for all tasks. In a recent survey, 20% of the team said their roles have shifted from actually doing the work to "managing Claudes." One engineer lowkey compared the experience to babysitting, noting that every AI-generated output demands equal attention.
Because Claude can pump out a "deluge" of text, the bottleneck isn't the AI's speed—it’s human judgment. Someone has to read, organize, and double-check all that output. While the company claims they are processing more contracts and writing more code, they admitted that churning out more code doesn't automatically equal higher quality.
More meetings, fewer emails
Despite all the automation, the team is actually spending more time in meetings—up 20% compared to a year ago. Technical contributors specifically are seeing a 16% hike in meeting time. The takeaway? Even at an AI-first company, humans still find face-to-face trust and coordination to be the main character of their workflow.
Why it matters
Anthropic is basically acting as a beta test for the rest of the professional world. By showing how AI changes hiring and productivity, they’re giving us a sneak peek at what the future of work looks like: fewer entry-level roles, more "AI management" tasks, and a surprising paradox where more tech leads to more time spent in meetings.
