Donald Trump is considering a total ban on diesel exports to lower fuel costs for U.S. drivers ahead of the midterm elections. While the White House says nothing is official yet, Chancellor John Healey isn’t taking any chances. He’s already in talks with U.S. authorities and prepping the UK’s own fuel reserves just in case the taps get turned off.
Why it matters
If the U.S. bans exports, UK diesel prices could surge even higher, directly hitting your wallet. Chancellor Healey is currently prepping an October 28 "breathing space" Budget, but with a planned fuel duty hike of 3p in January and another 2p in March, the pressure is real. Bottom line: the energy market is volatile, and until there is a diplomatic settlement in the Middle East, don't expect these pump prices to chill out anytime soon.
