The New Fuel Rules

President Trump just dropped a major policy change during a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, and it’s giving big disruption energy. He signed an executive order mid-rally, officially waiving restrictions on "red-dye diesel."

So, what’s the tea? Red-dye diesel is chemically identical to regular diesel, but it’s currently reserved for farm equipment and off-road vehicles because it’s tax-free. Until now, using it on public roads was a total no-go. With this new order, the President is allowing anyone to buy it for any vehicle.

Why it matters

President Trump claims the average trucker could save over $100 every single time they fill up. The logic is that by lowering fuel costs, the price of transporting goods will drop, which should—in theory—help lower your grocery bill.

It’s also lowkey a major play for the midterm elections. While onstage with Sen. Pete Ricketts and Gov. Jim Pillen, the President told them this policy "should absolutely ensure your election."

With diesel prices currently hovering around $6.32 a gallon—way up from last year’s $3.70—this move is a direct attempt to combat the cost-of-living crisis. The President stated he doesn’t think these restrictions will be needed for long, claiming gas prices are set to "plummet" once the war in Iran ends. Will it actually fix your wallet? That’s the multi-million dollar question.
