The Drama
For 72 minutes, this game was straight-up mid. Then, Matheus Cunha found Bryan Mbeumo, who pulled off a cold finish to put Manchester United up 1-0. The vibes at Old Trafford were absolute chaos, with Spurs looking like they were headed to the bottom of the table.
Then things got real ugly. Rodrigo Bentancur flew into a wild scissor tackle on Luke Shaw. Shaw—who clearly remembered his career-altering injury from years ago—was livid and shoved Bentancur. Things escalated fast, heads were pushed, and the ref gave Bentancur his marching orders with a straight red. Shaw and Jan Paul van Hecke walked away with yellow cards, though Shaw was lucky not to be tossed, too.
The Equalizer
Just when it looked like an L for Spurs, Dominic Solanke pulled through. In stoppage time, Sandro Tonali floated a cross that Lisandro Martinez fumbled. Solanke out-worked the defense and headed it home to tie it up 1-1. It was only the third goal Tottenham has scored all season, but it saved them from a fourth straight loss.
Why it matters
Both squads are struggling hard. Spurs are still winless through six games and stuck in the relegation zone, while Manchester United is sitting in 12th place with only three points total. Both Roberto De Zerbi and Michael Carrick are feeling the heat as their seasons go from bad to worse.
