Listen up, fans: a new Star Wars movie is officially in the works, and we finally have our director. Jon Watts, the mastermind behind the iconic Spider-Man trilogy featuring Tom Holland, has been tapped to lead the next installment of the legendary sci-fi franchise.

If you're a Marvel stan, you already know the vibes. Watts directed Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home. Before his massive superhero run, he directed films like Cop Car and Clown. He also has a history with the franchise already; he co-created the series Skeleton Crew, which featured Jude Law and centered on a group of kids on a wild, coming-of-age adventure in the New Republic era.

Watts isn't working in a vacuum. He's teamed up with writer Simon Kinberg, the powerhouse behind the X-Men franchise, who is confirmed to pen the script. This project marks another major move for Watts, who signed a first-look deal with Walt Disney Studios back in 2024. He’s now joining a massive list of legends who’ve sat in the Star Wars director’s chair, from George Lucas himself to J.J. Abrams.
