Speaking to BBC Newsnight, family members alleged that Sir Ranulph has been shuffled between various care homes using assumed names. The situation stems from a reported rift involving his second wife, Louise Millington-Cotes, who has yet to respond to these claims or requests for comment.
Family demands answers
Sir Ranulph’s stepson, Alex Millington-Cotes, is officially over the secrecy. He is calling for the power of attorney to be stripped from his mother, arguing that the explorer is not the type of person who should be isolated like this. "He's not an isolated type of person, and so to see him isolated now is very painful," Alex said.
Arabella Pepper, the sister of Sir Ranulph's late first wife, shared a similarly heartbreaking account. She claimed she only managed to see him once in July 2025 by essentially checking herself into the care facility where he was rumored to be staying. According to Pepper, the relief on his face was instant when she told him his friends were trying to find him. "Send a message to everybody, send them my love," she recalled him saying.
The official stance
While the family’s worry is at an all-time high, Cheshire Police have stepped in to say they are aware of the situation. They’ve noted that they are "satisfied" the explorer is in an appropriate setting with suitable care. Meanwhile, his stepson has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for legal fees to "locate and safeguard" his stepfather.
